In the beginning....there were 50 tiny creatures that arrived by mail. Mrs. Jondro (school secretary) opened the box and was shockingly surprised to find containers filled with live larvae! Each larva measured less than half a centimeter. A note inside said, "Feed immediately!" Not knowing what to do, she consulted with expert butterfly keeper Mrs. Jolles who just happened to be in the school on that day. Mrs. Jolles was kind enough to take them home, separate, and feed them. She 'caterpillar sat' for the night until I was able to pick up the critters and bring them to the classroom 'caterpillar nursery' to be studied and raised during our Monarch Migration unit.
